Americans are an interesting mix of cultures and kitchen amateurs. We love sushi, Chinese and Mexican food, Italian restaurants and coffee drinks designed, but when it comes to them, there are some surprises. We buy the same basics that existed for decades, mainly because we grew up and served in the school lunch rooms, which are located in every corner.

In general, there are no surprises here and this list has seen a slight change over decades, so let's start with the top 10 favorite foods in America (no vegetables in sight):

Hamburgers - Since the opening of the first white castle, we were addicted
Hot Dogs - All American Foods
Fries - you can not do much to improve them
Oreo Cookies - Chocolate cake lovers will disagree
Pizzas - a lot of class, but al-Qaeda remains the same
Soft drinks - as a nation that binge throughout the day (not technically a food, but hey)
Chicken Tenders - We know what a fast food chain that started it all
Ice cream - thank the head of food lovers Thomas Jefferson on this
Cakes - Breakfast heroes
Potato chips - our favorite snacks
Mac and Cheese (yes, Thomas Jefferson also made this)
Apple pie - has existed for some centuries

Soft drinks:

The cola - Since the opening of the first soda fountain, they have maintained their status
Lemon / Lemon Drinks - Since Americans have discovered lemon, there is a lot of variation in good old lemon juice
Dr. Pepper - is considered for the first time a medical tonic (similar to cola) still has loyal followers

fruits:

Mulberries - Since humans began harvesting cranberries in the forest (it is assumed that some surveys will argue that they are bananas or apples)
Apple - easy to grow and transport
Bananas - no washing required
Grapes - the cost can vary, but still fascinating, especially seeds

Vegetables:

Cauliflower - serious doubts here, but some polls insist
Corn - probably the first American vegetable and still there
Potatoes - because of French fries and chips
Tomato - ketchup base (our favorite spices) and lots of other foods
Green Beans - What do not you like?

Dessert (no surprise that the top five rely on chocolate):

M & Ms are very much linked
Rice Butter Peanut Cups
Snickers - peanuts, caramel - nuggets - best of all
Hershey - Milk Chocolate Bar - can not improve it
Kate Cats - Crunchy and Fun
Corn candy - at Halloween, certainly

Ice Cream flavors:

N 'Cream Cookies - Part of Oreo Madness
Chocolate - just a continuation of America's love relationship with anything from chocolate
Chocolate chip mint - refreshing
Vanilla - very versatile and the basis of many treats
Cookie dough - a relatively newcomer compared to the original vanilla

Unlike most categories, cost plays a major role in seafood:

There is no doubt that shrimp, which still tops the list, will be much larger in consumption if the price is lower
Salmon-s is far (but by far the most popular order in the restaurants)
Tuna - stuffed sandwich filling and eating out
Tilapia - often collide as "dirty", they are still cost-effective, light, easy to prepare

Best-selling cold cereals:

Cheerios - Both honey hazel and plain
Frosted Flakes - Sugar already added to old-fashioned cornflakes
Small wheat - shredded wheat - sugar coated and smaller than the original size
Special K - Described as a "diet" food, we can still deceive ourselves if we do not add sugar

In Starbuck, the rule of Frappuccinos:

Triple Mocha Frappuccino - You can not eat lots of chocolates
Coffee Frappuccino - the basic that started it all
Double Chocolaty Chip Crem Frappuccino - Getting a bit complicated here
Caffè Mocha - beats Latte - has a chocolate shot

So there you have it. As the nation of food lovers, we remain conservative and enthusiastic in our spirit, adhering to our old standards of comfort, cost, habit and taste. But we do not like to live indirectly when we see cooking shows, cookbooks, and adventure when we hesitate to eat ethnic restaurants. Although a diverse country has many backgrounds and cuisine, the same foods stand the test of time. We may not be in the hot kitchen but we certainly enjoyed our local foods to the utmost. This is fine with us.
